This page is intended to provide the WCCS community with a starting place for information on Internet (Cyber) safety. The Internet can be used as an incredible research and communication tool; however, due to the lack of regulations and perceived anonymity, users of the Internet can be subjected to numerous dangers. Dangers of the Internet include: access to inappropriate material; physical danger; bullying; identity theft; malicious sites; unsolicited and unreliable information.
Our students have been involved in the Youth Advisory Group on Cyber-safety which told the government it wanted a one-stop-shop for online advice and assistance. It is a free application that is available from the government website.
William Carey Christian School aims to regularly conduct information nights about cyber safety for parents and concerned citizens of the local community. Appropriate use of the Internet is taught across all curriculum areas, as well as targeted campaigns. The current targeted campaign is on Cyber-bullying and the practice of flaming.
The ICT department has created a more detailed document giving explanation of the dangers and tips for protecting you and your family, it can be downloaded from here.
