Bianca L., a Year 6 student at William Carey Christian School, has just finished performing in Sydney’s eight week season of the smash hit musical The King and I at the Sydney Opera House. Bianca is no newcomer to the spotlight, having played the role of Tam in Miss Saigon when she was just four years old.

Despite having shared the stage with stars Lisa McCune and Teddy Tahu Rhodes, Bianca is still incredibly humble about her talent. “The audition was scary,” she said, “I think I’m a good dancer and actor but I’m definitely not the best singer – I don’t know why they let me through!”

It’s clear that, once she came to terms with being good enough to secure a part, Bianca enjoyed every aspect of her role in this most recent production, particularly meeting lots of new people. “I was really nervous at first because I didn’t know anyone, but then we all got to know each other and it was great.” During the show, each child cast member was paired with an adult from the cast, Bianca said that her “show mum” and all of her new friends are what she will miss the most about the experience.

Bianca is obviously passionate about entertaining people and being on the stage. “Most of all,” she said, “I love that feeling when you come on stage at the end of the show to do the bows and everyone cheers for you.” It’s not hard to see why audiences cheer for the delightful and talented Bianca – she currently trains in ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, acrobatics and singing at the Dance Encore Performing Arts Studio in Bexley and has previously performed with the studio in America.

Bianca is very grateful to WCCS for encouraging her and allowing her to have time away from school in order to participate in rehearsals and performances. While she loved her experience in the show, Bianca said that it left her with a lot of school work to catch up on. Being a model student, Bianca is already up to date again – just in time for her to audition for the next show, Matilda, in January of next year.
