From the SLC

In the holidays, the SLC met for a training day to discuss as a team how we want to serve the school community this coming year. We looked at biblical leadership and worldly leadership and evaluated what kind of leaders we want to be. After pairing off with our co-year representatives, we came back to share our ideas about what we could do in our year groups. Some great ideas about movie nights, bible study groups, games afternoons and other grade activities were discussed and will be happening throughout the year. We’re all really excited to serve the school community in the building of relationships with the younger students. Upon our return to school, we met with each respective year adviser in a welfare meeting to discuss the ideas formed during the SLC training day.

In Week 2, Year 9 went on camp to Wedderburn. The SLC’s Year 9 representatives, Abbey and Miki, were with them on the first day. They joined in the activities and had the opportunity to have some great conversations with the students. On the Thursday night, Abbey shared her testimony and Miki gave a talk on friendship. These talks were both received very well by the Year 9 students, and Abbey and Miki both built relationships with a large number of the students.

Each term, the SLC run J-Walk. This term J walk will be running on the 15th June, Thursday Week 8. All of high school are invited to meet in G-block quad at lunchtime for fellowship, singing and a bible talk from a guest speaker. We can’t wait to see you there!

Years 7-11 have just finished their half yearly exams in the past two weeks. The SLC wish to remind these students as they begin to get their results back that God has a plan for every single one of us as it is stated in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Last week, Year 12 had a games and trivia night. As we are approaching the end of our time together, we thought it would be a nice opportunity to spend some time away from studying to get to know each other better. It was a great night with everyone enjoying a BBQ dinner and some interesting trivia questions.

Joshua 1:9 says “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” This verse is a great reminder to all those who are struggling with pressures of school work, friendships and other hardships. God reminds us that he will never leave us, no matter how hard things get. This reassurance helps us to be strong and courageous, able to face each day not in our own strengths, but through God’s power.
