What a busy first term we all have had. There have been may things that have challenged us all. There has been a lot of information in the media about people not respecting others. We want our students to be respectful members of our community and to make wise and courageous choices when making decisions. It made me think of this verse,
Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble. Proverbs 13:20.
Let’s unpack this a little. Younger people are often warned about mixing with the wrong crowd. We are moulded and influenced by the company we keep. Therefore, hang around those who treat other people badly and we may find we/our children will pick up those habits.
This doesn’t mean we avoid those who might have different views or standards. Jesus reached out constantly to those whose patterns of life were contrary to his own pattern.
It is important to show our children to get together with those who will not only show them the right track but who will help keep them on it. Their wisdom and godliness can rub off on them. Make sure they are shaped by those who exhibit in word and act, the character of Jesus. Enjoy the company of all and sundry, but be careful about who exercises the greatest influence on you and your children. Both folly and wisdom are contagious. I will leave you with this verse;
Be sure to teach them to your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road… Deuteronomy 6:7
