From the High School Deputies

Welcome back to Term 3. We hope that the recent holiday period provided you the opportunity to have a break from the normal school routines. Perhaps you had the opportunity to relax a little and even reconnect with your children as a family.

Year 7 -10 Parent Teacher Nights
Parents are particularly reminded of the two 7 – 10 Parent/Teacher nights that will be conducted this term. I encourage you to book into these events early and secure your appointments to avoid disappointment. Parents can choose either night to attend. The only exception to this will be for parents of our Year 8 students, as our Year 9 Subject Selection meeting will be held on Monday 15th August from 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Obviously, it would be to your advantage to attempt to combine your teacher interviews around this important meeting.

NAPLAN Trial Online Examinations
Our school has been selected by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) to participate in the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) Online Trial. The NAPLAN Online Trial will be conducted during Weeks 3 and 5 and will happen in all states and territories. The Online Trial is a set of computer-based tests which are delivered using the online national assessment platform. The purpose of the Trial is to evaluate NAPLAN test items that are under consideration for inclusion in future tests.

Participation in the Trial is an opportunity for the school to engage with the online national assessment platform. This will assist us in preparation as NSW moves towards NAPLAN Online. The Online Trial will involve one class each in Years 7 and 9. The class in Year 7 and 9 will participate in either the Reading test or the Language Conventions test. Parent/carer permission is not required for students who are selected to participate. Information about individual student or school performance will not be disclosed to education authorities.

All students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will also be part of a compulsory state-based NAPLAN trial, organised by NESA (NSW Education Standards Authority).  Again, this test is designed to test the test, and no performance data will be available after the testing. The focus of this trial is different to the ACARA trial, which is why we are participating in both.  The NESA trial will take place in Week 8 of Term 3.
