New Staff 2017

Miss Angela Benisch, English Teacher

I am delighted to be joining William Carey Christian School this year, teaching English. I’m excited about student centered learning and fostering engagement for all students. Most recently I taught at Oakhill College where I worked collaboratively to develop project based learning programs and online learning initiatives. I feel privileged to be part of a Christian School once again. In addition to enjoying learning with my students in our classroom, I enjoy running, getting to know people and cooking for my friends.

Mr Troy Champion, TAS Teacher

I have been blessed to be given the opportunity to join WCCS in 2017. I am an ex-tradesman who has retrained to teach in my background of metals and engineering. I love the fact that I can share with students my passion in this area and help them discover pathways for their future.
I am looking forward to serving the Lord in this area that He has gifted me in.

Mrs Beth Fuller, English Teacher

I am thrilled to be returning to William Carey as a teacher this year, after graduating here many years ago. It is a privilege and a delight to be able to teach English from a Christian perspective and to engage with the range of students’ strengths and interests in the classroom. I am a strong believer in life long learning and real-life applications for our study.

Mr Nelson Gabin, HSIE Teacher

I am excited to be joining WCCS this year teaching Business Studies and Geography. I remember fondly both of these subjects when I was a student and now love teaching them also. My career choice to be a teacher was inspired by my own teachers in these subject areas who were always knowledgeable and passionate. My goal is to similarly inspire students in these fields of study. Personally, I enjoy playing and watching basketball and am a HUGE Sydney Swans fan! I feel very blessed to be able to join the Christian school community at WCCS after previously working at Mount Annan Christian College.

Mrs Joanna Hingston, Kindergarten Teacher

Having spent eight years teaching in the NSW Public School system it has been my delight to spend the last two years teaching in Christian schools, culminating in the opportunity to teach Kindergarten here at WCCS. My desire as a teacher is to teach my kids that God loves them so much that he died for them, to bring them to God. I love that as a teacher in this school I have the opportunity to be just like one of my teachers who helped me, a kid struggling with sin, to find the full and free forgiveness that comes from knowing Jesus as your Lord and Saviour.

Mrs Beth Newman, Kindergarten Teacher

I am very excited to be teaching Kindergarten this year at William Carey Christian School. I completed my Bachelor of Primary Education at the University of Wollongong at the end of 2014. I was blessed to teach Kindergarten full time at a public school in the St George Area for the last 2 years. I am excited to be able to openly share the gospel to the students at William Carey and am privileged to be part of children’s learning.

Mr Matthew Burns, Year 5 Teacher and Stage 3 Coordinator

It’s exciting to be part of the leadership team here at WCCS in 2017. I have been teaching for 20 years, in London and Sydney, across both the State and Independent systems. I am husband to Andrea Burns, am a keen surfer, and a proud father to two beautiful children. Part of what drives me is improving student learning outcomes, and finding ways to leverage developing technologies in order to better achieve this. I am a keen Teacher – Leader who regularly presents at national conferences on the benefits of incorporating existing technologies into the classroom. Most importantly, my number one passion is Jesus – and it is great to be able to share this with the students in my care.

Mr Michael Nightingale, Director of Teaching and Learning

I’m looking forward to a great year at WCCS. This school has a very positive academic reputation in the region, and my role as the Director of Teaching and Learning is to help it to become even stronger in preparing students for the future. I will be doing my best this year to help our good teachers to become great teachers, and for our great teachers to spread their effectiveness throughout the school. On a personal note, I’m a little bit of a STEM geek and I love teaching Maths. I also support the Illawarra Hawks in the NBL and, most importantly, I became a Grandpa for the first time in October last year. I’m looking forward to meeting you!

Mrs Janice Post, Assistant Deputy Principal, Primary

Although I’m not new to WCCS, this year sees me beginning a new role as Assistant Deputy Principal, Primary, along with Mrs Michelle Shaw.  I am a dedicated educator, with 20 years of experience, who desires to teach students about God through learning about His creation.  I am passionate about planning and implementing exciting and innovative ideas in our school.  By supporting our students, families and staff, I am able to serve our school community and together help all our students grow and develop into lifelong learners.

Mrs Michelle Shaw, Assistant Deputy Principal, Primary

I have been on staff at WCCS since 2014 as K-2 Coordinator and now serve as Assistant Deputy Principal, Primary.

I spend a lot of each day smiling because I really enjoy working with all K-6 students, families and staff to see each one feel welcome, valued and supported. I particularly love to see students journey from Prep through to Year 2, especially how they have such an enthusiasm and curiosity about the world and how they grow in skills, knowledge and awareness of others.

I want to see technology used appropriately in schools. I love the way technology can be used to engage students and promote logical, computational thinking. I want to see our students positioned to be confident and competent digital citizens. I also want to ensure social, language and cognitive skills are also developed through “unplugged” activities.
