Have you bought your musical tickets yet? Opening night is soon, and there is a real “buzz” around the rehearsals. The stage has been extended, props are in place, costumes have been adjusted and things are looking great. I have included the performance information for each grade, so you know which performance to book for (though you are very welcome to book for more than one). Remember, it is OK for children to sing with a brother/sister in another grade, to make arrangements easier for parents.
Congratulations to all of the students who represented William Carey at the recent Zone Athletics Carnival. By all accounts our students performed very well, with a number proceeding to the State Carnival in a few weeks.
Thank you to the parents who have arranged to provide the school with their Working With Children Check (WWCC) information. This is a requirement for all parents helping at William Carey, as we seek to ensure the safety of the children. If you are planning to help at school, and do not yet have a WWCC, please arrange one as soon as possible. You can see Mrs Katzberg in the Primary Office if you need assistance with this. Each WWCC lasts for five years, so we don’t require annual updates.
I am very impressed by the enthusiasm with which our students are approaching the online Word Mania challenge. At the end of Round 1, several of our grades featured prominently on the leader board. If you would like to see what this is all about, please go to www.wordmania.com/au
Similar enthusiasm is also being shown by our Year 3-6 students, as they engage with Literacy Pro online. Literacy Pro (previously known as Lexile) allows students to keep track of the books they are reading, the number of words they have read and also provides quizzes to challenge them once a book is complete. If you are unsure of how your child should be accessing Literacy Pro from home, ask them – all 3-6 students have a logon. We have a large number of students who have surpassed the 100, 000 word level, with some already passing 500, 000 words. Who will be the first student to reach 1, 000, 000?
Primary Staff recently undertook training presented by NSW Health around Fundamental Movement Skills as well as Crunch and Sip. Staff found this very helpful, as we look at PE and Health programs. There are also ideas for parents, which looks at childhood health and nutrition, with a program called Go4Fun. More information can be found at https://youtu.be/XFuWJ1hiygM
A reminder that our Term 3 parent/teacher interviews will be held during Week 7 of this term. Our Year 3-6 interviews will take place on Tuesday 5th September, with K-2 on Wednesday 6th September. NOTE: KC interviews will be held earlier, on Wednesday 30th August. As usual, bookings will be made online through the PTO webpage. Detailed information will be coming home soon.
