A Message from the Primary Deputy

William Carey Award System Update
As outlined in previous Newsletters, the School is transitioning to a new award system.  One of the changes students will start seeing this term, is the phasing out of the Deputy Principal’s Awards, which are currently handed out at Friday assemblies.  This award will continue in a reduced form this term, and then disappear completely.  In its place, students have been receiving Teacher Awards, indicating how they have been exhibiting the Student Attributes.  We have a number of students who are close to receiving a Bronze Award, having received five Teacher Awards since the new system began at the beginning of Term 2.

Athletics Carnivals
Congratulations to the students who competed at the recent Zone Athletics Carnival.  I have spoken to a number of students who achieved a personal best at the carnival, which is a great achievement.  Well done to those students who continued to the State Carnival.

Maphutseng Partnership
Over the years, our engagement with the Maphutseng Partnership has changed, depending on the needs of the schools we support. Direction is also taken from World Vision, who had oversight of some aspects of the work.  Currently, our major focus is directly supporting students to attend the Bethesda High School.  This involves us paying school fees and other costs for students, to enable them to attend school.  Each class in our Primary school has a small money box, and students are encouraged to bring in loose change from time to time, to support the students in the Maphutseng region.  As with all fundraising activities, it is not compulsory for students to be involved; this is a family decision.

Prep to Year 2 Sport Carnival – Family Event
The Prep – 2 Sport Carnival is on next week, Thursday 23rd August.  This is always a day of family fun, as our younger students enjoy friendly competition with their friends and classmates.  There are parent races too, so come prepared!  There will also be an optional sausage sizzle for lunch, with orders due by Monday 20th August.  A note with all the details was sent home previously, including the times.  We would love to see many parents/carers/grandparents/etc. there, to enjoy the day with us.
