Wrapping up 2018
As we come to the end of the 2018 school year, I like to let my mind wander back over what the year has held. We have seen a lot of fun activities, from sporting to cultural, great excursions and fascinating visitors to our classrooms. As always, many parents have been busy in the background, helping to ensure that these activities run well. I would like to thank our parent community for their ongoing support in so many areas. A special thank you to those families who randomly appear with cakes and other goodies for the staff from time to time. You have no idea what a boost such kindness brings during a busy term!
I would like to acknowledge our hard-working staff, who continue to focus on bringing the best Christ centred schooling experience for your children. I can honestly say that working with the children is more than a job for our staff, as they strive to get to know each child, and care for them individually. I am blessed to work with such a team, and I am thankful for the job they do each day.
Year 6 Graduation and Dinner/Dance – Monday 3rd December
A highlight of the end of the year is the opportunity to celebrate the end of Primary schooling with our Year 6 students. We have two main events:
Year 6 Graduation – This is a formal assembly that commences at 10:30 am in the school hall. All families are welcome to attend, but a particular welcome is extended to family and friends of our current Year 6 students. We ask all those attending to recognise the formal nature of this assembly, and to conduct themselves accordingly. Family and friends of Year 6 are invited to remain for morning tea after the assembly, kindly catered for by Year 5.
Year 6 Dinner/Dance – This special event begins at 6:30 pm, again in the school hall. Our Year 6 students enjoy a lovely meal, interspersed with dancing. This really is a fitting end to what has been a big year for these students and their teachers.
Both staff and students alike enjoy these opportunities to acknowledge the achievements of our Year 6 students.
Our Presentation Assembly is on Thursday 6th December, starting at 9:00 am. All parents are welcome to attend. If your child is receiving an award, you should have been notified about this via a letter with your child’s report. We look forward to celebrating the year with you.
Vacation Care bookings are filling up quickly, so you need to act now to secure your child’s place. Booking forms are available from the OOSH building, Enrolments Office or the school website. Our two themes promise lots of fun activities and experiences for the children with December – “The Christmas Tree” and January – “Big Summer Bash.”
Thank you to the always generous William Carey community, for the kind donations towards our Christmas hampers. We have a number of families that have been doing it tough throughout 2018, so it will be a real blessing to be able to show them the love and care of their school community in this way.
As I consider all that Christmas means, I would like to leave you with a wonderful quote from Corrie ten Boom, paraphrasing John 3:16.
Who can add to Christmas? The perfect motive is that God so loved the world. The perfect gift is that He gave His only Son. The only requirement is to believe in Him. The reward of faith is that you shall have everlasting life.
– Corrie Ten Boom
