A Message from Mr Burgess

Staff Development Week
Welcome to Term 3.  While your children were enjoying a third week of holidays, staff were hard at work, back at school.  We had a great week of staff development.  A highlight of the week was our Head of Biblical Studies, Mr. Glen Connor, delivering four challenging talks based on the book of Philippians.  So much to learn, and so much to apply in our daily lives.  Staff also continued to focus on refining programming skills and processes, as we seek to prepare the most effective lessons for our students.  All in all, a very busy but productive week.

Soccer and Netball Gala Day
Our catch-up date for the Soccer and Netball Gala Day was held on Monday.  Our students had a great day and represented the school well.  Stay tuned to see which teams will be representing the school at the upcoming Netball and Soccer event being held on Thursday 8th August.

All students should have received their reports during the last week of Term 2.  Copies are also available on the parent portal (Edumate) for download as needed.  In case you weren’t aware, all reports are uploaded to Edumate, and can be accessed at any time.

NED and Yoyos…
If you are anything like me, then yoyos featured prominently in your childhood.  In fact, I still have a few in a box somewhere in the garage.  The NED Show, is a performance group which visit schools, promoting resilience and self esteem in students, via the medium of yoyos.  All of our students K to 6 will be part of this experience next week, and based on previous visits, are bound to have a great time.  A usual side effect of the visit is increased interest in yoyos.  We will have NED Yoyos available for sale over the next week or so, following the visit.  Details regarding how to purchase these items will come home soon. If you would like more information about the program and the themes covered, you can go to http://www.thenedshow.com/

Parent Helpers
Like most schools, William Carey runs on our amazing parent helpers.  There are many activities that wouldn’t be possible without the assistance of our parents.  Thank you to all who have been involved in some way, so far this year – it is greatly appreciated.  I would like to remind parents of the process to be followed, if you wish to be involved as a parent helper:
– We are often overwhelmed with willing volunteers, so sometimes need to turn some away.  Please don’t assume that just because you have offered to help/attend, that you are automatically selected.  The school will always inform you if you are attending an event as a parent helper.
– A current Working with Children Check is required for all parent volunteers.  Gaining one of these is a process that can take a few weeks, so please apply well in advance of the activity you are volunteering for.

Again, thank you for your willingness to help.

4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness[d] be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
– Philippians 4:4-6
