From the Primary Deputy

NAPLAN has been and gone for another year.  I am pleased with the sensible way in which students approached the assessments.  We have been advised that parents should expect NAPLAN reports by 25th August.  The school is happy to provide guidance when reading and interpreting your child’s NAPLAN report, so please feel free to contact us with any questions.  We will also send home some information prior to receiving the reports.

Cross Country

Our Cross Country Carnival is coming up soon, and parents should have received a note about this already.  We have made a number of changes this year, of which parents and students need to be aware:

  • Firstly, we have reversed the age order of the races. The day will commence with the 12 year old races and work down to finish with the 7/8 year old races.  This is very important for parents to note, so you come to the right race at the right time!
  • Secondly, we have introduced a sausage sizzle to add to the carnival atmosphere of the event. Please note that this is pre-order only, as we cannot possibly cater for such a large event without knowing numbers.  Parent helpers are essential to make this work, so please return the slip on the bottom of the carnival note if you are able to help.

BRICKFEST is coming!  If you love LEGO, or just enjoy marvelling at other people’s creations, this is the day for you.  It was a very enjoyable day last year, with thousands of people coming to enjoy the exhibition and activities.  Get your tickets now, and make a family day of it.

I would like to thank the parent helpers who attended our recent Year 4 and 5 camps.  Your time and effort is greatly appreciated – we simply cannot do these camps without you.  Likewise, parents who volunteer to attend excursions, help with sport and so forth.  If you wish to be involved in this way, please remember that there is a requirement to submit a current Working with Children Check to the school, prior to the excursion or activity.  Mrs Katzberg in the Primary Office can help you with more information regarding this process.

Car Lines

As many of you would know, car lines sees a mass of children, and an equal number of parents/grandparents, descending upon a small area of playground.  Our goal is to observe each child being collected, so we can ensure they go with the right person.  To help this run more smoothly, I would like to remind you of part of our car lines policy.  The policy states that until picked up, children are to sit under teacher direction.  Once a child has been collected by their parent/carer, they are to stay with them and not run off to play.  If children are running around the oval or basketball courts playing, it is impossible for teachers to ascertain who has been picked up and who is just running off.  If you collect your children from car lines, please keep them with you, to assist us in protecting the children in our care.
