Year 6 Camp

Year 6 has just returned from a wonderful (though rather wet) three days in Canberra.  This camp’s activities tie in strongly with the Civics and Citizenship unit Year 6 is studying this year and provides opportunities for our students to gain a deeper understanding of the concepts covered.  Amongst other locations, the students visited Parliament House, Questacon, The National Electoral Education Centre and The National Museum.  A huge thank you to the staff and parents who worked together to make this camp a success.

The Australian Government have generously supported our students by providing a rebate to the school for the Canberra Camp.  William Carey Christian School acknowledges and appreciates this support, as we seek to provide meaningful and enjoyable learning experiences for our students.  The organisation involved, the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program, explains the process as follows:

Students from our school have recently undertaken an educational tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist in meeting the cost of the excursion, the Australian Government is contributing funding of $20 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

A number of our students are involved in the Commonwealth Bank Schools Program.  This involves students banking each week, through the Uniform Shop.  There was some confusion caused by a letter sent out earlier this year.  To clarify: banking day is always WEDNESDAY.

Parent/Teacher Interviews

All information regarding the upcoming Parent/Teacher interviews has been sent home to parents in paper form.  It was determined that this was an easier, more secure way to do so, based on the username and password information contained.  We are working on a way to safely and efficiently do this electronically for next time.

The dates for interviews are:

                Years 3 to 6 (but not 4HF)             Tuesday 24th March 2020

                Years K to 2 (and 4HF)                    Wednesday 25th March 2020

All interviews are held in R Block.

If you did not receive this information, there are two probable explanations:

                1. You have already received an invitation to an interview involving Mrs McCleary OR

                2. Your paperwork went astray.  If you think this is the case, please call the Primary Office ASAP, so we can sort that out for you.

The Parent Teacher Online website goes live on Monday 16th March at 8pm and closes on Sunday 22nd March at 11:00 pm.  Bookings can only be made during these dates/times.

Photo Day

Primary Photo Day, and A-K Sibling Photos, is on Friday 3rd April. As with everything else this year, engagement with this process will be online, via the School App.

You will receive a broadcast with all of the information required.  This will include a code that you need to use to book online. Please note that no photo envelopes will be sent home, as both class and sibling photos can be managed online.

My concern is that we still have families that are not accessing the School App, or the School Newsletter.  If you are aware of any families still not accessing the App, or who are having issues with it, please encourage them to contact us ASAP so we can assist. We are very happy to help anyone who needs support with this!
