NAPLAN is Here

NAPLAN for our Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 students has been running over the past week.  Through the media, you may have heard of technical issues experienced by some schools.  Thus far, we have experienced a few very minor issues, but none that have impacted significantly on our students.  One more week to go!  We have been advised to expect the results back at school between mid-August and mid-September.

Cross Country Carnival

Our Primary School Cross Country Carnival was held recently, on a mostly sunny but cool day.  Our students performed well, with some excellent times being recorded.  Congratulations to the students who are progressing to the CSSA State Carnival on Friday 31st May.  I would like to thank the small crew of parents who worked tirelessly throughout the day, to ensure the sausage sizzle lunch went off without a hitch.  Catering for that number of hungry mouths is no easy feat, and we couldn’t have done it without the wonderful helpers.

Getting Ready for Kindergarten 2020 – Parent Evening

On Thursday 30th May we are holding a workshop specifically for parents of Prep students.  It will follow a TEDx style format with four ten-minute talks on the following topics:

•             Tears and smiles in Kindergarten- practical tips for preparing children emotionally for school

•             What should a child know before starting school? Is learning the alphabet enough?

•             Why didn’t someone tell me? Cybersafety for 4-8 year olds. Managing Techno-tantrums, safety tips and resources.

There will be an opportunity to ask questions after the presentations.

Families from outside WCCS are very welcome to attend.  Please RSVP via the link below, for catering purposes.  Tea, coffee and sandwiches provided.

Silver Awards

It was very exciting to be able to hand out some Silver Awards at our recent Primary Assembly.  To receive a Silver Award a student must have already received three Bronze Awards (15 teacher awards), which is no easy achievement.  There are many different ways in which a student can earn an award, and all of these are linked to our five Student Attributes:

*Be a learner
*Be a team leader
*Be respectful
*Be a leader and helper
*Be wise and brave.

The morning assembly devotions each day focus on these attributes and offer guidance from God’s Word as to what each attribute looks like at school and at home.  I encourage all students to be at assembly on time, so they don’t miss this valuable start to their day.
