If you have a child in Years 3 or 5 (and 7 or 9 in the High School), they will be part of NAPLAN 2019. At William Carey, we have moved over to NAPLAN Online, and find the process very engaging for the students. Mr McMullen has written a letter outlining the NAPLAN process at Carey, and this has been sent to Year 3 and 5 families already. These families have also received fact sheets from the Government, regarding NAPLAN. If you somehow missed this (it was emailed to parent addresses), or are just curious to know more about NAPLAN, please click on the NAPLAN banner on the main newsletter page.
Year 6 Events (Continued)
After a successful BBQ and information evening with our Year 6 students and their families, we are about to enjoy our next activity – a Year 7 Taster Day. Our current Year 6, as well as those potentially attending Year 7 in 2020 from other schools, will be experiencing High School for a day on Monday 8th April. Students will spend the day in a variety of High School classrooms, completing a STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) project with their classmates. The day will culminate in students presenting their finished project to parents. As our Year 6 students become more familiar with High School, it is hoped that this will engender excitement about what is ahead in their secondary education. As with all of these events, if you know a Year 6 student from another school who might be interested, please put us in contact with their family. We would love them to come along.
Year 5 Camp
Year 5 are gearing up for their upcoming trip to Teen Ranch. With our evaluation of the School’s camping program last year, it was decided to move the more pastoral/team building camp to the beginning of Stage Three. This allows staff to work with the children, as they move into more leadership roles within the Primary School. Please keep Year 5 in your prayers, over Wednesday 3rd to Friday 5th April.
Thank you to the many parents who were able to attend our recent parent/teacher interviews. According to the PTO website (which likes to keep statistics) it was one of the most well attended interview sessions we have ever run. This is very encouraging for us as staff, as one of the keys to a successful education is the cooperation between school and home.
ICAS (UNSW) Maths and English Competition
The University of NSW runs a series of Australia-wide competitions each year. William Carey is involved with the Mathematics and English Competitions, for students in Years 3 to 6, via an opt-in arrangement. If you are interested in your child being involved in these competitions, please click this link to read more and to enrol your child. Students in the top Mathematics and English groups are automatically entered.
