From Mr Burgess

Everything is Online (continued)!

Thank you to our school community for the way in which you have embraced the changes we are making to communication.  I am conscious of some small problems along the way and am appreciative of the way in which families are working with us to get through these.  Here are a few more FAQs to help us along the way:

1. How do I order and pay with this new system?

From time to time we have sausage sizzles, school dances, etc that require both permission and orders/payment.  How do we manage that?  As we have a K-2 Dance coming up, I will use that as an example.

i. Parents receive a notification via the App that the K-2 Dance is coming up.

ii. The App contains a copy of the letter, outlining the details of the dance, including the cost.

iii. There is also a link to a Google Form, which allows parents to grant permission for their child/ren to attend the dance, list any medical or other concerns, etc.  I understand that the link is not always easily identified on the App, so I will endeavour to always name the link LINK and then a description.

iv. Once the Google form is complete, granting permission, please send your child to the Uniform Shop with whatever money is owing.  Please place this in an envelope, showing your child’s full name and class.  The Uniform Shop can access the information showing that you have granted permission, and therefore can accept the money.

NOTE: If you have not granted permission, the Uniform Shop can’t accept the payment, so please ensure permission is granted prior to sending your child in with the money.

2. QR Codes.

While we phase out all notes over the next month, you may still receive a paper note with a QR code on it.  The QR code (big, square pattern that looks a bit like a barcode) is linked to the Google Form I have mentioned above, as a shortcut.

To use the QR code you simply open your smartphone camera and point it at the QR code.  A link will appear on your phone screen, which you then click on and follow.  You are then on the same Google Form that I have spoken about already.

Please Don’t Bring…

Our aim at William Carey is to balance freedom of choice for our pupils with the safety, privacy and protection of all students.  With that in mind, we would remind families that the following items (amongst others) are not to be brought to school.

– Glass containers/bottles or ceramic containers of any kind

– Aerosol sprays (deodorant etc.)

– Metal rulers

– Smart Watches*

* There is a lot of discussion as to what constitutes a Smart Watch as opposed to a FitBit or similar.  The main concern with these is inappropriate communication and privacy.  Students may not wear watches that allow communication at all, whether directly or by connecting to a separate device.  They may also not wear watches that allow them to take photos or record video or audio.
