Welcome to Term 2 at William Carey. I trust everyone had an enjoyable break, and took time to reflect on the great sacrifice of our Lord Jesus.
Primary School Staff
I would like to welcome Mrs Emma Davison onto staff at William Carey. Mrs Davison will be taking over from Mrs Smith on 1E, while Mrs Smith awaits the birth of her first child. Please be in prayer for both of these ladies, as they undertake new roles.
Mrs Helen Walton is also leaving us, but we are calling this “Au Revoir” (until we meet again) at the moment, rather than farewell. Mrs Walton will be focusing on family matters for the foreseeable future. We are blessed to have Mrs Anna Scarcella and Mrs Sarah Costa sharing Mrs Walton’s role from the beginning of this term.
Our annual Mother’s Day celebration is on next week. Please note that the location for this event will be the WCCS hall. We look forward to seeing mothers and grandmothers at this great event.
NAPLAN is fast approaching. As the time gets closer, teachers are introducing students in Years 3 and 5 to the tests, so that they are familiar with the type of questions being asked. We do not “teach to the test”, as this would be decidedly unproductive. We view the test as a snapshot of a day in the life of our students, as they undertake the different assessments. It is also a helpful tool for us to see the effectiveness of our teaching programs.
There has been some talk in the media regarding NAPLAN and online testing. For 2017, William Carey will be completing all aspects of NAPLAN on paper. As further information regarding moving online becomes available, we will keep you informed.
Car Lines Procedures
I would like to remind car lines parents that activities taking place on the basketballs courts or oval of an afternoon need to be considered when you are walking through the playground. On a Tuesday afternoon, our High School students will always have sport activities finishing up, so it is important that parents do not wander through these games. This may also occur on other afternoons, depending on PE lessons in Primary or High School. Please look after our students by remaining off the oval and basketball courts until these activities have finished.
