I would like to welcome all of the new students who have started at William Carey this term. We are very glad you have joined us, and look forward to getting to know you over the coming weeks. If you have any questions, or would just like a chat, please feel free to drop in and see me in the Primary Office.
Thank you to our wonderful Vacation Care staff for another fantastic program over the holidays. From “Socca Joeys” to Gymbus, lunch orders to labs, even bowling to onesies (but not at the same time thankfully), it was one great experience after another. I’m sure your children are looking forward to the September holidays already.
While your children were enjoying their third week of holidays, staff were hard at work at school. We had a great program of staff development, kicking off each day with studies about prayer. Primary staff worked on refining curriculum documents, with a focus on English. We also received training in differentiation as well as the mandatory WH&S. A very productive week.
Many of our students, staff and families have been working on our latest musical production since February. With less than a month until opening night, excitement is building in the school community. Tickets are selling fast – book yours online today so you don’t miss out.
After School Activities
For after school activities this term, we have our friends from Fast Football back to run their great Soccer program. This will kick off (pun intended) on Wednesday 2nd August, and run for the term. We are looking at other options for after school activities, and would like to hear from parents who have any ideas, and particularly any contacts. Please email or call if you have some thoughts.
The NED Show
The NED Show is coming back to William Carey. They last visited a few years ago, and were very popular. Alongside a great message about encouraging each other to “Do Your Best” there is a lot of fun activities with yo-yos. Yo-yos will be available for sale on the day, and for the week afterwards. More information coming soon, but if you’d like a sneak-peak, you can go to the NED website at www.thenedshow.com
Congratulations to our Junior and Senior Boys’ Soccer teams, who have both made it through to the Metro Cup. This is a great achievement, and we are looking forward to a day of top quality football next week.
NAPLAN is (sort of) coming back. As you may have heard in the media, NAPLAN is going online in the near future. To ensure the system works, both at their end (ACARA) and ours, schools have been asked to conduct a trial of the online platform this term. This will involve all current Year 3 and 5 students sitting a modified NAPLAN online test. There is no data collected or available from this test; the purpose is simply to “test the test” and see how well it operates. I recently attended a training day for NAPLAN online, and was very impressed with the platform they are proposing to use. Along with the obvious benefits of allowing students to use technology, the greatest advantage will be the prompt availability of results. The proposed turn-around is between three to four weeks, with a view to being faster in years to come, which is a lot better than the current three months.

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:1-2
In His service,
