From Mrs Coote

Welcome back to Term 2! I hope you had a well-rested break with your families.

Throughout this term, I would like to share how the teachers at William Carey Christian School are using Clarity, by Lyn Sharratt, as our guide to best practice. You would remember that several years ago, the school created the ‘Design for Learning’ pathway. Through this, the teachers went about reshaping their goals for student achievement and assessment. It was the start of a new journey into different ways of thinking.

In 2020, our Leadership Teams read and explored the ideas behind Charity and worked towards building it into the ‘Design for Learning’ pathway. However, this year, we will be breaking this down further with the staff and discover the many ideas and concepts outlined in the book and how this benefits the learning needs of every student.

Over the rest of this term, you will be able to read about the various strategies outlined in Clarity. Some of these include; 14 parameters, learning walls; meaningful assessment; learning walks and talks, data walls and many more.

End of School Time

I can appreciate that the end of the day can be hectic, and that many challenges can arise during this time. If this is you, could you please contact the Main Office, (02) 9608 2277, and let them know that you are delayed. Unfortunately, many of our families are not doing this and are not arriving until well after 3:30 pm. You must arrive within the allocated time to pick your child up from school, between 3:00 to 3:30 pm.

If this becomes a regular issue, you will be contacted by the school and asked to sign your child into the William Carey OOSH Program. Melissa Balenzano and her incredible team will care for your children before school, 6:30 to 8:30 am, and after school, 3:00 to 6:00 pm. Please feel free to contact her on (02) 9608 2118 or email her at oosh@wccs.nsw.edu.au.

Webinars for Parents

Technology is forever changing and has its positives and negative parts. It is a massive part of your child’s life, and you need to know that your child can be safe while using this tool. Please read and join a free webinar group so that you are aware of the latest research regarding technology.

Kind regards,

Kindergarten Afternoon Tea

On Friday 23rd April, William Carey held our Kindergarten Afternoon Tea. A great afternoon was had by parents, carers, teachers and students of our current Kindergarten. Friday afternoon was our first opportunity to spend time together as a larger group. It was wonderful to see parents joining in on games and various activities.

Year 5 Camp

During week one, Year 5 enjoyed three days at Teen Ranch in Cobbitty. It was an excellent time for the students to get to know each other, learn by working as a team and challenge themselves to do some new activities. Students canoed in the Nepean River and became very muddy, but all had huge smiles on their faces. They rode a horse and learnt the techniques around horse grooming. They worked in a team to complete the Challenge Course, including navigating the ‘acid river’ and ‘stealing a golden pizza’. They also supported each other to have a go on the giant swing and completed an orienteering course. A highlight was the night hike and bonfire and Mr Forrester star talk. Thank you to the staff at Teen Ranch and our teachers who helped make this a valuable learning experience for our Year 5 students.
