From Mr Burgess

It seems like a very long time since I last prepared a newsletter article.  Certainly, a lot has happened since then.  Hopefully as you receive this, things are on the slow journey towards returning to normal.

First and foremost, I would like to sincerely thank our parent community for their ongoing support during these challenging times.  School is a partnership between teachers and parents at the best of times, but never more so than now.  It has been incredibly encouraging to see parents working alongside their children, somehow juggling their own work while supporting their child’s learning.  The kind emails, comments and phone calls have been an absolute blessing to staff, as we seek to support you the best that we can.  Thank you!

I would also like to acknowledge and thank the staff, who have been very proactive in seeking out new ways to engage with the students in this online world.  I have been constantly amazed by the innovative ideas that have come up and been shared across the grades.  While there is no substitute for face to face interaction, I honestly feel that our staff have created the next best thing.  It has been a steep learning curve, but absolutely worth it.

Finally, I would like to thank all the education publishers and distributors who have made resources available online during at home learning, in many instances for free.  I will list them all in a later newsletter, but I wanted parents to be aware of the support we have received from this quarter.

All of that said, I am looking forward to the time when we can all be back together again onsite!

So, what is happening over the next few weeks?

All families should have received the communication from Mr McMullen, regarding the phased return to school as directed by the NSW Government.  Week 3 (Monday 11th May) sees us move into phase one, which involves students attending school on one, allocated day per week.

We would ask that as many parents as possible follow the published schedule, as this makes both at school and online learning preparation more achievable.  If you need to make a variation to the schedule, please email us at so we can engage with you, and make the necessary arrangements.  We want to work closely with our families as this transition happens, so please keep the communication coming.

When will this change?

As the old saying goes, “How long is a piece of string?”  The school continues to follow information released by the government, as well as seeking advice from The Association of Independent Schools, regarding this transition process.  While we have flexibility to make our own decisions within certain parameters, we are still careful to not act rashly.  I can state that the school is committed to getting children “back to work” as soon as is safely possible.  We will keep you updated as soon as we know of any changes.

Your part to play

Again, I cannot thank our parent community enough for the ongoing support throughout this time.  The two main things we need to keep happening from home, in order to ensure a smooth transition through the phases, are:

1. Keep up the communication.  The better informed we are regarding your child’s attendance, the better we can prepare.

2. Keep your child home if they are sick.  We would ask parents to be overly cautious in this area, to ensure (to the best of our ability) a COVID-free school.

Parent/Teacher Interviews

Parent/Teacher interviews for Primary students will be happening online during weeks 4 and 5 of this term.  The arrangements are:

                Years 3 to Six – Wednesday 20th May from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

                Kindergarten to Year 2 – Wednesday 27th May from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. 

                ** Note – KC will take place on Friday 29th May, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Please note that parents who have had, or are booked in for, an IP interview, will not receive this information.

Interviews will take place over MS Teams, a video application which we have been using successfully to carry out IP interviews this term.  I will send out a Broadcast (via WCCS App and Parent Portal) to all families with further information.  Bookings will take place using the usual PTO website.  Families will receive an email with their username and password details. Bookings will open on Monday 11th May at 8:00 am (not the usual 8:00 pm) and close on Sunday 17th May at 11:00 pm.  It will not be possible to take late bookings, due to the work required to set up and email individual links for the MS Teams meeting.
