From Your Primary Deputy

You may be wondering what is happening at William Carey regarding Education Week, Literacy and Numeracy Week, Book Week, etc.  Well for reasons I will never understand, we have decided to combine all of these to create MEGA DAY.  This day of many and varied activities will be taking place on Friday 21st October and will cover all of those “weeks” and more (Grandparent’s day, Book Fair, etc).  Stay tuned for more details.

Through Liverpool Council, the school has been offered access to an organisation called EnviroCom Australia, who provide teaching and resources for schools about recycling.  They will be coming out to William Carey in the next week, to work with our Year Three to Six students, teaching them about recycling and sustainability.  We appreciate Liverpool Council making this resource available and look forward to the teaching from EnvioCom.

You may have noticed a number of different excursions this year for some of our grades.  As we implement the Australian Curriculum for both Science and HSIE, we have been writing new units of work.  Some of these units link with different excursions and activities, so we have been adjusting our excursions accordingly.  For Year 4, this has meant a trip to the maritime museum, whereas Year 5 now includes a visit to The Illawarra Fly.

Staff News

Mrs Deborah Connellan, one of our wonderful kindergarten teachers, will be leaving us at the end of the term.  Mrs Connellan is expecting her second child, and I’m sure you will join us in praying for Deb, Adam and Logan at this time.  Mrs Alison Knight, one of our most experienced casual teachers, will be teaching KC for the remainder of the year.
