From the Primary Deputy Principal

Primary Athletics Carnival
The Primary Athletics Carnival was held on a sunny, but windy, day recently.  We are thankful to have finished all events before the weather turned.  This was the first year in which Year 2 have joined us, and they seemed to have an enjoyable time.  I would appreciate any parent feedback regarding this, as we make plans for future carnivals. Click here to email your feedback.  There was a large amount of lost property left over from the carnival, including sums of money.  If you or your child is still missing something, please direct them to the Primary Office.

You can see some photos from the carnival here.

CSSA State Cross Country
Our students performed well in the recent CSSA State Cross Country Carnival, held at the International Equestrian Centre.  It is a challenging course, with a lot of competition from schools all over the State.  Of particular note are our 8/9 years and 11 years boys, who achieved top ten placings in the team rankings.

Lending Money and Using the Canteen
We have had a few situations recently, both at school and at off-site events, in which children have managed to buy things from the canteen, against their parent’s wishes.  This occurs when they either borrow money from a friend, or manage to convince a nearby well-meaning adult that they are somehow close to starving!  Please do not buy food for other children, or lend them money, as that takes the decision away from parents regarding their child’s purchasing.  I have spoken to the students about not lending money for this reason, but would appreciate it if you could reinforce this at home.  It is important that all parents are aware and in control of what their children are buying and eating, and we need to act to support this.  Furthermore, with the range of serious allergies we have within the school community, this situation can also be dangerous.

Primary Reports
Reports will be coming home soon.  K-6 reports will be handed to children on Monday, with Prep reports going home over the week, depending on which days your child attends.  If you have any questions regarding your child’s report, please contact their class teacher.

Carey Community Events
You will notice a couple of events coming up for our school community.  A Little Night Music concert is a great opportunity to come and see the creative arts performances of students across Primary and High School.  It may also inspire your child to become involved in one of the music programs offered throughout the school.  Shades of Shakespeare is a Primary ALC activity, in which the students perform modified versions of some well-known Shakespeare plays.  This is also open to all parents and students, who might enjoy such a performance.

Gala Days
We also have an upcoming CSSA Netball and Soccer Gala Day.  We send our junior and senior IPSSO teams to this event and they will be receiving notes with more information very soon.

“Before the mountains were born, before You gave birth to the earth and the world, from eternity to eternity, You are God. For in Your sight a thousand years are like yesterday that passes by, like a few hours of the night.”
