Mary Poppins Recap

What an eventful few weeks we have had at William Carey! Between the musical, parent/teacher interviews and Father’s Day breakfast, there really has been something for everyone.  Or, in a few cases, some people involved in everything.

Congratulations to all involved in the musical – it was an amazing experience.  From the staff directing and organising, the students singing and dancing, the staff and students behind the scenes, etc it was a truly brilliant show.  Thank you to all the parents who supported the musical by driving students to and from rehearsals, helping with stalls and bringing the whole extended family to performances (often more than once!).  Your support is appreciated.  Now to prepare for the next one…

Parent/Teacher Interviews

Thank you to the many parents who were able to come along to parent/teacher interviews.  Teaching is very much a partnership between school and home, so it is essential that we keep in close contact.  If you were unable to come up, please call/email to make a time to chat with your child’s teacher.

Prep Students

It has been enjoyable seeing our Prep students wandering around “big school” over the last few weeks.  They seem very much at home, and are all happy to greet me with many, many questions when we cross paths.  Our Prep staff do an amazing job, not least in the work they do to prepare the children for school.

Sporting Achievements

Congratulations to Tane B, Akira T and Eamonn D, who all qualified for the CIS Combined Independent Schools Athletics Carnival next week.

We have been working with our lunchtime soccer players recently, to remind them that they are not competing in the world cup each time they step out to play.  When matches are not refereed, (which our lunchtime ones are not) it is important that players temper their playing style and exclude such activities as slide tackles and other more physical actions.  It would be helpful if parents could reinforce this from home as well.  We are keen for lunchtime soccer to be a safe and enjoyable experience for all involved.

Farewell to Mrs Darby

As we near the end of Term Three, it is my sad duty to inform you that Mrs Renee Darby will be leaving us at the end of the term.  She has been offered a position much closer to home, and has accepted this.  Mrs Darby has been with us at William Carey for 17 years, which is an amazing achievement.  Over this time, she has taught a variety of grades and been involved in many different activities.  Mrs Darby brings a wealth of skills, and great enthusiasm, to her teaching and will be greatly missed.  Our prayers go with her as she begins her new position.
