From the Student Leadership Council

Greetings to all parents and carers guardians! On behalf of the SLC we’d like to warmly welcome you to Term 1. As the term and new school year is getting into the swing of things, we want to begin with a word of encouragement from the bible, before we get into updates on the swimming carnivals and news on parent seminars.

This weeks devotion comes from Isaiah 41:13.

It says: ‘For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, do not fear; I will help you’.

As we head into another school year, it’s easy to get overwhelmed with assessment tasks, new classes and trying to get back into the school routine and structure. Sometimes, we need to take a step back and remember who is in control of our lives and allow Him to guide us through these challenges. This verse provides the guidance that God is with us through these tough times and encourages all of us to trust his word and direction. We encourage you all to take his hand as this verse says and put all your faith in him. We would like to wish everyone all the best for this year and we hope that you all look to turn to God in times of celebration and hardship.

Due to the impact of hazardous weather conditions, the High School Swimming Carnival has been postponed, meanwhile, the Primary Swimming Carnival ran as scheduled on Tuesday 11th February. The High School Carnival has been rescheduled to Monday 24th February, for competitors only, at the Whitlam Leisure Centre. We wish safety upon all families during this time and we pray that all damage from the extreme weather is soon fixed.

One of the school’s main aims is to support the growth of students both in and out of the classroom and help them to become lifelong learners. William Carey will be holding ‘Parent Seminars’, open to parents from Prep to Year 12, so that we can help you to help your students. These three seminars will include:

YSAFE – 24th February, 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

As part of being an eSmart school, this seminar will provide strategies to promote a safer online environment

ELEVATE – 16th March, 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Focused more on high school study, this seminar will equip parents with techniques to help deal with their studying students

ANXIETY AND ANXIOUS CHRISTIANS – 14th May, 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

This seminar provides a Christian perspective on dealing with anxiety

On behalf of the SLC we strongly encourage you all to attend these seminars in order to help encourage and support your children through their learning experiences.

In His service,

Jenna Hanley & Lachlan McNamara
