SLC News

The current SLC have now come to the end of their time together. The new council for 2018 have been elected and are excited to serve next year! The 2018 council are;

Year 11 – Kaysia Younes, Lauren Ross, Dylan Hou and Nathan Fielding

Year 12 – Leticia Monteiro, Halanie Joudo, Meredith Laurea, Prudence Doyle, Alex Stanton, Keegan McMullen, William Burge, Rishaal Rai, Maurizio Pagano and Ryan Revere.

We can not wait to see what God has in store for this group as they faithfully serve our students.

J Walk is held once a term and is a perfect opportunity for people to bring their friends to know God. This term being the last J walk for year twelve students, was hosted only by graduating students so they can participate one final time. It was very encouraging to see the number of people varying from years 7 – 12 who congregated to hear about God’s word as a community. It was a beautiful day to all be gathered on G Block quad, worshipping and singing together while enjoying fellowship over God’s word.

William Carey Christian School consists of over 60 various ethnic backgrounds. Next term, the SLC will be running a multicultural day again to present students and teachers with the opportunity to proudly represent their culture for a day. This event will include a lunch filled with a range of cultures, traditional foods and music, and an opportunity to get involved in the diverse culture of our school. We’re very excited to see this day happen again! The SLC also run an Instagram account that posts regular reminders of what’s happening in the school and encouragements for those who are struggling. It’s definitely worth following @studentsatcarey to check what’s happening in the life of our school and be reminded of God’s love regularly.

Year 11 students have nearly finished their preliminary final exams, the last set of exams before they commence their HSC year. This has been a difficult time for these students as it has thoroughly tested the knowledge they have gained over the past three terms and it is likely that they have been feeling the pressure to succeed around this demanding time. However, we as a council are praying these students will be able to work to their full capacity as well as maintain a positive Godly outlook. We pray that these students’ marks will reflect their efforts whilst remembering that these marks are not the “be all and end all”.

As the term comes to a close, so does our time at William Carey. We would like to thank the SLC and the wider school community for all of their prayers and encouragement over the past year. We are full of gratitude for the amazing opportunities provided at this school, and thankful for the dedication of the people within the community who have shaped us with God’s word. We have learnt so much, been challenged, but most importantly, we have been motivated to live for God’s glory everyday through this role.  Psalm 3:3-5 “But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. I call out to the Lord, and he answers me from his holy mountain. I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me” reminds us of the hope and strength we have in Jesus Christ who sustains us throughout everything and our prayer is that the future SLC can continue to grow in the years to come.

For God’s Glory,

Lucas Mushahwar and Elizabeth Ross
