From the Student Leadership Council

Welcome back to the new school year for 2018, one that promises lots of new learning opportunities. In particular, we’d like to give a warm welcome to all of our Year 7 students who have entered their first year of High School with us. We pray that the upcoming year is one of great success and delight to all.

This term ahead is also filled with much excitement and many events. Keep your eye out for events such as J-Walk in forthcoming Newsletters. We hope that through these events, we can strengthen the school’s sense of community, along with the worship of our Lord.

The SLC would like to announce the finalisation of the G Block mural. With the help of both the CAPA Department and students’ expertise, the mural looks fantastic. Keep your eye out in the G Block quad as it has been installed onto the G Block elevator. Thank you, Visual Arts, for the hours of work you have put into completing an idea, proposed by Fynn McMullen in 2015, to make a more vibrant quadrangle.

Along with all the exciting opportunities that 2018 will bring, we are called to face the uncertainty and trials that ensue in a new year.  No matter what the difficulties may be upcoming this year, we pray that as you face your ups and downs, that you are always anchored into the bigger picture of our God, and are not washed away by circumstances. No matter the troubles that we may face, we pray that God will remind us of what is really important in our lives. We encourage you to continue seeking improvement in your studies, along with all other aspects of life through a growth mindset, but most of all, may we always seek a stronger relationship with our Holy Father.

‘And not only that, but we also rejoice in our afflictions because we know our affliction produces endurance, endurance produces proven character and proven character produces hope.’
(Romans 5:3-4)

Here we hear of Paul’s encouragement to the Romans as they face their trials and afflictions. He explains that, despite the difficulties they are facing, they are to keep in mind that through this, they can ultimately bring glory to God. As we face the New Year, keep Paul’s message of exaltation in your mind as trials approach; it’s a great encouragement as we face our own afflictions.

We are looking forward to a new year!

Yours in Christ,

Alex and Keegan
