On Wednesday the 22nd of May we, alongside with Mr White, had a great opportunity to visit Parliament House, Canberra. We were invited by Anne Stanley, the member for Werriwa in the Australian House of Representatives. Ms Stanley graciously set out time to give us a tour of Parliament House, speak to us about what she does, and also gave us an opportunity to sit in on Question Time, where we were able to see our Prime Minister in action.

Ms Stanley enjoys the face to face connection with people in her job. During our time with her, she told us that the thing she enjoys most about her job, is having the ability to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. The hardest part of her job, however, is time management. She often has to deliver important speeches at very little notice, adding a sense of stress and urgency. It was an amazing experience being able to take a deeper look into the work of Australia’s government, and a great opportunity to hear and learn from Ms Stanley. Many thanks to Ms Stanley for this amazing opportunity to learn more about her and her work.

Half yearly exams are now finished! We hope you all received the marks that you deserved. Exams might be finished, but that doesn’t mean that the workload has finished too. We encourage you all to keep working your hardest for the remainder of the year. You still have plenty of assessments followed by yearly exams, so manage your time wisely and be motivated to do your best in everything that you do.

On Monday the 28th of May, William Carey students competed in many running, throwing and jumping events in the High School Athletics Carnival. Congratulations to all those who competed, and good luck to those representing our school at the zone carnival later in the year. Unfortunately for the Year 12 students, this was their last school carnival! These carnivals will surely be missed by many Year 12 students, as it was always a great opportunity to socialise and enjoy healthy competition with peers outside the school gates. Thank you to all those who volunteered in helping measure and judge each event. Your contributions made the day run smoothly, and is greatly appreciated by everyone.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may overflow
with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” –
Romans 15:13

The hope, joy and peace mentioned in this verse, can only come from knowing God, because he created us, and is the author and perfecter of our faith. The more we walk alongside God, the more this hope will overflow in our lives, making others take notice. Faith in Jesus is the only way to a perfect eternity, worshipping our merciful creator. Eternal life is not something that we have to wait to receive, but something we currently have through faith in Christ. Walk with God, so that you may be filled with joy and peace in believing. For those who are Christians, let this joy and peace overflow, share it with others and do not contain it, so that they too can have this same hope through Christ.
