In Week 7 this Term, 76 of our Year 9-12 Visual Arts and 9 Photographic and Digital Media students embarked into the city for a day of gallery viewing. First up was the impressive State Library, where students viewed a largely photographic exploration of Max Dupain’s iconic 1937 ‘Sunbaker’ image. Everyone then walked across the domain to the Art Gallery of NSW and split up into class groups to view permanent collection works related to areas of study.
Students then entered Art Express, an exhibition of top 2016 Visual Arts HSC work, where one of our 2016 students, Vishant Prasad, had his time-based video work on display. Students were inspired to consider the type of work they might like to create and make for their HSC body of work. After lunch, students viewed John Olsen’s retrospective painting exhibition and journeyed home, hopefully with broadened understandings of art and many ideas for current and future art-making endeavours.
