Year 11 VET Work Placement

Vocational Education and Training (VET) subjects are highly practical in nature and give students dual accreditation – they achieve the subject as part of their Higher School Certificate studies, plus gain a qualification under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).

In Year 11 this year, we have students studying Hospitality (Food and Beverage), Construction Pathways and Entertainment Industry. A large proportion of Year 11 VET students have recently gone out into industry and completed work placement, which is a mandatory component of their HSC. VET students are required to complete 70-hours of work placement in the relevant industry.

Learning in the workplace enables students to:

  • progress towards the achievement of industry competencies
  • develop appropriate attitudes towards work
  • learn a range of behaviours appropriate to the industry
  • practise and apply skills acquired in the classroom
  • develop additional skills and knowledge, including the employability skills

“The supervisors have been really friendly and it’s been a good place to learn”

“It’s been an awesome week. I’ve learned how to make coffees, serve customers, I’ve even taken orders and used the till”.
