Congratulations to Joshua P. of Year Twelve, who attained first place in the Entertainment World Skills State Competition that was held at Trinity Grammar School earlier this month. Joshua competed against six other senior high school students from around the state.
The competition required students to set up three different systems – vision, sound and lighting. Joshua achieved an outstanding combined result of 89.5%. Each student was given instructions and plans to explain the requirements of the systems. Competitors then received marks based on how efficiently and effectively they were able to set up the systems. By working methodically and showing both initiative and problem solving skills, Joshua was able to achieve his excellent result.
Joshua has been part of the WCCS Sound and Lighting Team for the past five years, has been similarly involved in his church for three years and has both operated and helped design the lighting for our last two musicals, Beauty and the Beast and Peter Pan. “It was me against the clock in this competition,” Joshua said, “Everything had to be perfect, safe, correct and according to plan.”
The national level of the competition will take place from the 30th of August until the 1st of September, in Sydney. Joshua is already looking forward to the event and is excited to be representing William Carey Christian School in this field.
