In the School’s ongoing monitoring of safety for access and egress to the school grounds, it has become apparent that one cause of unsafe student pedestrian behaviour is where some parents/carers are parking to drop off or pick up. The section of Bumbera St in front of the school is sign posted with parking restrictions. This is a Liverpool Council determination based on the number of car and bus movements at the start and end of the school day. The heavy traffic at these times makes parking in those places an extra hazard that is meant to be eliminated by the “No Stopping (8:00am – 9:00 am, 3:00pm – 4:00pm School Days)” designation.
The problem caused by this illegal parking is that some students are crossing Bumbera St amidst this heavy traffic. This is an accident waiting to happen. This is a fervent plea to parents and carers not to park where the red signs prohibit it. The trauma to the child hit, as well as that to those who would witness it or have to deal with it as first responders would be significant and, sadly, entirely preventable.
Please be aware that Council Rangers have the authority to issue fines for illegal parking. We prefer to think safety of our school community members will be a stronger motivation in this matter.
