As part of the Year 8 PDHPE curriculum students are required to complete the compulsory unit on Aquatics. To complete this unit, students will be taking part in a program “Surf School Project” funded by the government and includes a variety of swimming activities. The Surf School project was developed to address the issues contributing to drowning among Western Sydney youth, as this group is considered ‘high risk’ for drowning. This workshop has been especially developed for Western Sydney youth to address their awareness, skills and knowledge needed for safer aquatic participation, which includes addressing risk taking behaviour around water.
